Marsh Fire Contained After 2,100 Acres Burn
A 2,100-acre marsh fire at McFaddin National Wildlife Refuge is now contained. Crews used backburning to control it. Likely caused by lightning, with no reported injuries or damage. Read more here!
Lumberton’s Growth Spurs Dental Expansion
Dental Square is building a 7,500-square-foot facility on Highway 69 to meet rising demand. The expansion includes 14 rooms, surgical suites, and high-tech equipment, opening in April. Read more here!
Lamar Women’s Basketball Declines WNIT Bid
Lamar University women’s basketball declined its WNIT invitation despite a 22-8 season. The team gave no reason for the decision after falling in the Southland semifinals. Read more here!
Beaumont Council Approves Gilbert Building Demolition
Beaumont City Council voted 6-1 to demolish the fire-damaged Gilbert Building within five days, citing safety concerns.. Inspectors warned sections could collapse without scaffolding, and that repair plans were submitted. The basement was recently drained as part of an arson investigation. Read more here!
